Okay guys--as you know Derek is intense in every way! He is sooooo loving, soooo active, soooooo LOUD, soooo sweet, and soooo emotional! Seriously...he makes me laugh. Here are a few examples...
Last night, he had had it! He was so worn out. He was falling apart and crying at everything. I was trying to have a little talk with him and he just said, "Mom, I just need to cry right now."
Okay then...
Also, on Christmas Eve night we were gathered around the tree and had been singing some Christmas songs. We then started talking about everything we were thankful for. We started talking about Kev's parents, Grandma and Grandpa Banner. Derek was sitting on Kev's lap and he (once again) just started bawling! We said, "Derek, what's wrong?" He said, "I just miss them sooooo much!" It was very sweet.
Also--sad movies, TV shows, and books tend to tug at his heart strings. It is very cute. Here are a few examples...
A while ago, he was watching Lady and the Tramp and I was sitting close by working on something. He paused the show and said, "MOOOOOMMMM...this is just so sad! It makes me want to cry (as his voice was cracking)." He went on to say, "Actually, I am crying!" Then he started sobbing! I watched the part of the movie and it is pretty sad. Here is a clip...
Also, Derek was watching Sponge Bob the other day and he said, "Mom, doesn't this make you just want to cry?" "It is so sad." Again, he started sobbing. Here is a clip... (oh--for those of you who don't watch Sponge Bob...Sponge Bob has a pet snail named Gary. I guess Sponge Bob forgot to feed Gary, so Gary left to go find a new owner. This song is about that...)
I agree...it is pretty sad.
Derek is very in touch with his emotions. He adds so much spunk to our home. His little crying episodes are sweet too. We love Derek very much!

What a sweet boy! You are one blessed momma! How could the boy not be so awesome with you for a mom!
He is so cute. I hope he can tell the difference between reality and make believe or else it will be even more sad for him. :) Carley cannot wait until she can see him. When can we get together with you guys? We are pretty open right now.
He so sweet. I'll bet he's getting big, too. When he gets a little older you'll have to hide the Lemony Snicket books from him. They might just put him over the edge. And whatever you do, don't let him near "Where the Red Fern Grows." There's nothing sweeter than a sensitve boy.
Come visit us in NH some time!
