Merry Christmas 2010!

We had such a fun Christmas in Oregon with Grandma and Grandpa Banner!

Kevin's brother Neil, his wife, Diane, and daughter Jennifer spent Christmas morning with us as well.  Diane and Jennifer slept over Christmas Eve night, and Neil came over first thing in the morning as soon as he got off work.  It was nice.

Several aunts, uncles, and cousins came to visit throughout the day.  It was a nice relaxing day.

Christmas Eve Festivities with the Banners

We went up to Oregon for Christmas this year to spend it with Kev's family.  We had a great time!

The Banners have so many fun Christmas Eve traditions that I love.  It was so much fun to be there.

We decorated sugar cookies, enjoyed listening to Grandpa Banner tell Christmas stories, and sang Christmas Carols around the piano.

Our kids also got new "feetie" jammies and had a little gift exchange amongst themselves.  We had a wonderful Christmas Eve!

Kevin's mom made the yummiest sugar cookies and let the kids decorate them.  The kids had a lot of fun decorating AND eating the cookies!
Benjamin, "enjoyed" decorating cookies!
Grandpa Banner is such a great story teller.  Here he is telling Christmas stories while all the grandkids listened intently
Grandpa reading the favorite, "How Mrs. Claus Saved Christmas."  He's been reading this story every year for a very long time!
Benjamin and Jacob with Grandma Banner!

Tyler with his Lamborghini (from Jacob)
Brooklyn with her Taylor Swift CD (from Benjamin)
Derek with his Lightning McQueen fighting car (from Brooklyn).  He saw this car in Wal-mart one day and LOVED it!  He couldn't stop playing with it!
Benjamin opening his present from Derek.  For some reason I didn't take a picture of the actual present.  He got a Toy Story 3 garbage truck and he loved it so much!

Christmas festivities with the Martins

Okay, I'm making progress!  I'm finally getting around to posting about Christmas!  Yay!

The Sunday before Christmas, we went up to my parent's house.  The younger grandkids reenacted the Nativity story.  Derek was so excited he was able to be Joseph!  Brooklyn was a shepherd and Tyler was a farm animal.  Very fun.

The kids also made their traditional graham cracker candy houses.  Our family has made candy houses ever since I can remember.  As a kid, it was something I looked forward to every year!  It's a little more hectic now because there are a lot more people involved, but it's still fun.

Benjamin is a card!

Okay, our sweet little 3 year old Benjamin is just so so so funny!  I should just follow him around with a video camera ALL DAY LONG because he literally has me laughing ALL DAY LONG!  He is also very animated and has very expressive eyebrows and expressions which just add to it.

Here are a few pictures...

I just love this little face
Here are some of the funny things he has said lately...

Our family decided to go to Chuck-a-Rama for lunch one day.  As we pulled up, Ben said, "Look dad, it's Chuck-a-grandma!"

Kev and I were sitting at the table eating edamame one day.  Ben came over and asked me what we were eating.  I said, "It's edamame."  Ben then turned to Kevin and asked, "Is yours eda-daddy?"

The other day he came in the kitchen wearing some little orange "nerf-type" sunglasses (as you can tell from the pictures, he has a thing for sunglasses).  I commented and said, "You look so cute Ben."  He looked at me very disgustedly with his eyebrows furrowed and said, "I don't look cute mom....I look awesome."

A couple of nights ago Ben was having a hard time going to sleep.  He came out of his bedroom and Kevin and I told him, "You better go to sleep Ben."  "We have church tomorrow and we don't want you to be tired in nursery."  He responded, "I don't like nursery!"  "They have lame (pronounced "wame") toys and "wame" kids!"  He went on..."The kids poop in their diapers and stink up my nose!"

He has been into Super Heroes lately.  He made up a song called "Super Ben" which he sings quite often.  It goes something like this...(kind of to the tune of the Superman theme song), "Super Ben da da da da da, Super Ben da da da da da....da da da da (you get the idea)."  He sings this while running around the house.

Speaking of Super Heroes...the other day I bought a box of Super Hero Popsicles (including Hulk, Spider Man, and Iron Man).  Benjamin LOVED them!  The first time he ate one (Spider Man), he wanted me to sing the Spider Man song (which I don't know too well).  I would sing..."Spider Man, Spider Man...then da da da da (I don't know the words) and then I would end, "Look Out, here comes Spider Ma-a-a-an."  He LOVED this and he would run around the house with his Popsicle in his hand pointing forward (like Superman) as I sang.  Well, as he ate the Iron Man and Hulk Popsicles, he wanted me to sing as well.  So, I would just change the words to Iron Man or Hulk.  It was pretty funny.

This morning, he insisted that he was a "Super Hero who saves the day!"  After breakfast he asked, "Mom, can you get your little baby (meaning Jacob) and your Super Hero dressed for the day?"

When he has lost something like his shoes, a toy, or whatever, he says, "It's a mystery."  "We need to solve it!"

The other day I was trying to get Ben down for a nap and he wasn't too thrilled about it.  I told him that if he ran and got in his bed really fast, I would tell him the story of Hansel and Gretel (he hadn't heard that story before).  I tried to build it up and said, "It's kind of a freaky story though."  "It's quite scary."  He loves scary things, so I knew this would get him excited.  He started running to his room and then stopped and looked at me with worried eyes and said, "But mom, I'm just a little kid!"

One day Ben told Kevin that he wanted a snack.  Kevin took Benjamin into the pantry and saw a bag of trail mix.  He asked Benjamin if he would like some.  Benjamin responded, "Hmmm...M&Ms, nuts & raisins....that'll do the trick."

At the beginning of December, we took our little family to the city Christmas Party.  We waited in line to see Santa.  When it came time to sit on Santa's knee, Benjamin didn't want anything to do with him!  Ben just hid behind me and stared at Santa with his eyebrows furrowed.  After we left, we asked Benjamin if he liked seeing Santa.  He said, "I was SOOOOOOOOOO nervous!" (the way he said this was a cute as anything)  "I didn't know him!"

Around Christmas time, I was shopping with the kids at Ross.  Benjamin found a little Mega Blocks car set that he LOVED.  He carried it all over the store!  At one point, he thought the toy broke and was disappointed (it didn't really break though).  Anyway, as I was shopping, he kept hiding in all the clothing racks.  I heard him talking and I asked him what he was doing.  He said (rather annoyed), "Shhh, I'm talking to Santa!"  He then said, "I'm telling him that I want that little broken toy!"  I then told Benjamin that maybe we should ask Santa to bring him a fixed toy like that.  He got all excited and said, "Oh, that's a great idea!"  Needless to say, I secretly bought that toy and it was a HIT on Christmas morning.

This is all I can think of right now.  I know there are several other things I'm forgetting.

I just want to always remember the sweet, funny little boy that he is.  He is growing up WAY too fast!  I love him so much!

Brooklyn's a dancer!

My sweet little only daughter, Brooklyn has been taking dance this past year and I'm so happy!

She took dance for a year when she was 3-4 and then she did gymnastics for a couple years.  When we moved to Riverton 3+ years ago, she quit and she didn't want to sign up for dance OR gymnastics.  I often reminded her that she was my ONLY girl so she just HAD to do something girly.

Well, her little friend finally talked her into taking dance with her and she has loved it!  Yay!

I don't have too many pictures of her dancing, but here are a couple...

Performing at the Festival of Trees...she is on the far right
I just want to say a little something about Brooklyn.  She is the sweetest little girl in the world!  She is so calm, patient, helpful, and always sweet.  She is such a peacemaker in our home.  It's so funny because there is a STARK contrast between her and ALL of her 4, shall we say "animated" brothers!  It really is funny and I have to keep reminding myself that the very strong personalities that all of her brothers possess will serve them well when they grow up (if they make it that long!) LOL!  Brooklyn is a gem and I'm so grateful to have her as my daughter.
