We left Friday morning and enjoyed the nice quiet drive up (sans kids!). We camped in Stanley, ID and had a fun time having dinner and spending time with Kev's family. However, by the time we set up camp and got things ready for the race, we didn't get to sleep until 12:30! We woke up around 1:30 (and that hour of sleep was pretty lame I might add) so that we could be ready for our start time of 2:45 AM!!!! Holy COW!
We arrived at the starting line and we were so excited! Our team consisted of me and Kev, our nieces Andrea, Stacie, and Angie (who was 5 months pregnant!), and Camilla (Angie's sister-in-law). We were all pumped up!
Our team ran a total of 61.9 miles. I ran the 2nd and 8th legs and Kev ran the 5th and 11th legs. We ran about 11 miles each. My first leg started around 3:45 am. It was so strange to run in the middle of the night and in the middle of nowhere! It was a surreal experience. There weren't too many runners on the road either...I could see one way ahead of me and one behind me and that was it. I hoped I was going the right way and I hoped a wild animal wouldn't eat me. It was cool though.
My second leg and both of Kev's legs were in the pouring rain! Yee-haw! I REALLY didn't feel like running that second leg at all. I was so tired and wet and the last thing I felt like doing was running...but I did it and it was (sort of) fun! After the race, Kev and I were so beat! I felt like I could sleep for days! It was so much fun though and so awesome to experience it with family!

I'm almost sad when you post, Melanie, cuz it makes me miss you so dang much to read about your life and your family. Seems a life time ago that we were all in Rhode Island. I love the running updates. I'm working my way back into it and you inspire me so much. You wouldn't happen to have a good half marathon training schedule you would like to share with me? That's my one year goal. Anyway, love you!
